Job Description:
UC Davis San Bernardino, CA Bacteriology Technician Salary or
Pay Range: $28.88/hr. - $46.46/hr. – Please note: This position is
subject to a departmental budgeted salary range of: $28.88 -
$32.51/hr., commensurate with educational background and relevant
work experience. THIS POSITION IS PERMANENTLY LOCATED IN SAN
BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA. Under the direction of the supervisor,
responsible for performing diagnostic assays and assisting in the
general laboratory organization of the bacteriology section.
Responsible for processing necropsy samples, clinical submissions
from external submitters and food pathogen testing samples.
Diagnostic evaluation includes identification of food pathogen
agents in regulatory samples, performance of Salmonella serotyping,
isolation and identification of mycoplasma, isolation and
identification of fungi and direct examination of feces for
parasite and parasite eggs. Organizational tasks to include: sample
and isolate management, data entry, equipment maintenance and
ordering of supplies and inventory control. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's of Science or Bachelor's of Arts in Microbiology or
Bacteriology. • Experience performing staining, sub-culturing, and
assisting in performing diagnostic testing. • Knowledge and skills
to process and evaluate clinical specimens submitted for
parasitological examination i.e. sodium nitrate flotation, direct
preparations. • Knowledge and skills to process and evaluate
aerobic, anaerobic, mycoplasma, food pathogen and fungal cultures.
Skills to operate centrifuge, micro-pipetting equipment, light and
dark field microscopy, Class II Biohazard laminar air flow hood,
autoclave, thermocyclers and automated microbiology equipment. •
Knowledge and skills to perform molecular testing. Skills to
enter/retrieve data from computer and utilize common desktop
software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint). •
Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of
individuals, to include co-workers, clients of the CAHFS, and
individuals from other University units and government/outside
agencies. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in a
diagnostic laboratory. • Knowledge and skills to safely handle and
dispose of infectious materials. • Skills to perform animal
inoculation of bioassay materials. Skills to learn to evaluate and
identify organisms based on colonial morphology, various stain
techniques, wet preparations, and biochemical means. Key
