Significant Pediatric Emergency Room experience Experience with
Cerner Description: Pediatric Emergency Room has a separate waiting
room. There is a built-in fast track room off the lobby. The Peds
ER has five rooms and six treatment chairs. There is one triage RN
in the lobby. Travelers are allowed to perform triage after
completing one assignment. There is no separate area for ER holds;
ER RNs manage their own holds. No separate psych or seclusion rooms
are available. In-house security is present. The department sees
approximately 325 visits per day, totaling about 30,000 pediatric
patients per year. Staffing ratios are 1:4 for Peds, 1:2 for PICU,
and 1:1 for procedural sedation. Common diagnoses range from minor
walk-ins to critically ill patients, including respiratory failure,
asthma, abdominal pain, fractures, and substance abuse. The ER
staff includes designated pediatric doctors. Charge nurses oversee
all ER activities. Emergency techs or CNAs are utilized, with LVNs
supporting the fast track area. All staff is trained for EKGs.
Transport to the radiology department is required for further
imaging services. Phlebotomy services are available. Scheduling
requires flexibility with shifts, with no block scheduling. Weekend
shifts consist of four shifts per month, which can be scheduled
weekly or biweekly. Travelers are expected to work holidays unless
scheduled time off coincides with the holiday. No on-call or
standby requirements exist, and no floating outside of the ER is
expected. Uniform colors are navy blue for RNs and cranberry for
LVNs, with no hoodies or sweat jackets allowed. Travelers will
undergo unit-specific orientation to ensure all education is
completed. There is a cancellation policy allowing the facility to
cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done
