Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ’s relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client’s needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential. About the Role The Controller is a senior finance leader responsible for the overall financial health and integrity of a professional services organization. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on operational leadership across accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The Controller partners closely with executive leadership to support informed decision-making, drive profitability, and strengthen long-term financial sustainability. This position reports to the Chief Operating/Financial Officer and offers meaningful opportunity for growth and expanded leadership responsibility. Key Responsibilities Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements, including trust accounting Manage and enhance accounting processes, including billing, collections, and expense reimbursements, through documented standard operating procedures Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, evaluate performance, and recommend operational and financial improvements Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team while fostering strong internal controls and best practices Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; MBA and CPA strongly preferred 10–15 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership or controller-level role Prior experience within a law firm environment required, with strong knowledge of partnership structures, tax considerations, and regulatory compliance Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, cash flow management, and financial reporting systems Experience with legal accounting software; Elite 3E experience preferred Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and complex formulas Proven ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to stakeholders at all levels High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail GHJSS LI-JE1 We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
